The first step is to start with the end in mind, that is... what are you wanting at the end of this co-creation?
A single headshot?
A starting branding package?
A business with multiple people?
Is it outside or indoors?
If inside... in a room or against a backdrop?
From here we work backwards, where after figuring out the What, we turn to the How and When;
While I work exclusively on-location, I do have a location in Mill Valley for interior backdrop headshots;

Count on an hour+ for a single headshot, where we spend some time getting into alignment / agreement, and then go through a number a subtle options;
If you'd like to add a different setting / location, figure on 30-60 minutes for each added setting;
Single headshots / settings start at $290;

One of the first questions is whether we're inside our outside, ie. natural light or professional strobe lighting?
The other question, if inside, is whether it's against a backdrop (e.g. white, dark) or in the context of the space (e.g. office, entrance, library, etc.);
If you already know what you want, great. If not, consider doing a search on-line for something like "great headshots" and start looking through, saving those that speak to you, which you can share as part of the process; in this way, too, having examples to show whatever photographer you work with will be helpful in providing a sense of what you're drawn towards...
For headshots and portrait outside... we start with a list of locations you have a connection with. Your yard? A park? A place you know that brings you joy / grace? Typically, the background is also so blurred out that it's not clear where you exactly are; and yet... i believe the essence is there;
Practically, in whatever setting we look for even light that can illuminates your authentic self!
For headshots inside... I either come to you or a space your have access to, or we meet at a space i have access to in Mill Valley;

First and foremost, something you feel life-affirming in. Something that authentically reflects the aspects being portalled through the images;
Of note, too, often not much gets seen below the chest, which makes the finish of the top around the neck being of relevance. Turleneck, vneck, jacket...?
An option is to bring a couple different top / outfits to have additional versions to select from.
At the core, i'd say it's a combination of experience, equipment, and commitment;
Someone who's created hundreds of headshots spanning all sorts of settings and equipment is able to steward you into the end result becasue they can work backwards in terms of getting from Here to There.
A professional photographer is also committed to creating something wonderful, whatever it takes (within reason, of course) ; )
Which, to me, is an authentic collection of images of you embodying a range of different qualities we imbue into the images.
Becasue we start with the clarity of the final result — i.e. what you want — we can customize the process to get you exactly, and only, what you need.
Best is to reach out and start a conversation where we can explore the key questions in real time and see what feels a fit.
For businesses and organizations needing multiple headshots for different people, the price per starts at 3 for $750 and goes down from there;
